Performance Workshop with Vera Passos and Tracing Diasporas

Vera Passos is considered one of Salvador, Bahia’s most elegant and eloquent contemporary Afro-Brazilian dancers. In 1992, Vera began training in the Silvestre Technique with Rosangela Silvestre and soon became Rosangela’s protégé. Vera has danced for Jorge Silva Dance Company and the world acclaimed Balé Folclórico da Bahia touring throughout Brazil, Europe, Asia, the US and South America. She is the artistic director at the annual Silvestre Technique Intensive in Salvador, and has been a guest artist with Viver Brasil since 2010. She currently teaches dance workshops, choreographs and performs all over the world.
We are very lucky to be able to welcome Vera back to Santa Cruz for a week filled with daily dance classes and daily rehearsals starting on Sunday June 10th, leading up to a performance at the second annual Tracing Diasporas Performance on Friday June 15th and 16th at 8pm!

Dance Workshop with Rosangela Silvestre

Agua Doce Dance and the Tannery World Arts and Culture Center presents a 4 day Dance Workshop with Rosangela Silvestre!
There are a variety of class that will be offered during this 4 day workshop. There will be Samba de Roda, Orixa Movement Dance Class, Silvestre Technique, and Orixa Symbology accompanied by Live Drumming. Rosangela Silvestre, native of Salvador Bahia, is a world renowned master dancer, choreographer, dance instructor, and an inspiration to be around. This is an opportunity not to miss if you are interested in delving deeper into the roots of Afro-Brazilian Dance Forms.
ALL CLASSES are all level classes and are open to anyone interested in learning more about these dance forms.

Orixa Symbology Dance Class with Rosangela Silvestre

Rosangela Silvestre will be in town this weekend and is offering a 2-hour Orixa Symbology Dance Class. Rosangela Silvestre, native of Salvador Bahia, is a master dancer, choreographer, dance instructor, and inspiration to be around.
This class will focus on the gestures of the Orixa dances in combination with the Silvestre Technique. This class is a study of the traditional symbols as inspiration to create movement, and how to work with the Technique creatively.
This is an all levels class and is open to anyone interested in learning more about these dance forms.

Vera Passos, is considered one of Salvador, Bahia’s most elegant and eloquent Afro-Brazilian dancers. Vera has danced for Jorge Silva Dance Company and the acclaimed Balé Folclórico da Bahia touring all throughout Brazil, Europe, Asia, the US and South America. Vera has been a guest artist with Viver Brasil since 2010, and she also choreographs for Tocandomblé and went on extensive tours with Steve Coleman. Passos began studying the demanding Silvestre Technique with creator Rosangela Silvestre in 1992, and soon became the protégé of Silvestre. Vera teaches the Silvestre Technique and Orixa Dance Movement classes Internationally and at the Annual Silvestre Technique Intensive which happens every January and August in Salvador, Brazil. This is truly a treat to have her here, please come out and experience dance with this amazing master teacher!
